Year of the Water Rabbit - 2023

As the driven and focused Tiger steps aside, the Rabbit bounds into view. Popping up from their underground burrows to show the world they are here. Unlike the Tiger who walks alone, Rabbit likes company, the more, the merrier.

Rabbits are seen as soft or weak; an attribute humanity shies away from. However, it is in that softness that Rabbit's strength lies. Much like the Water element, it is about going with the flow, not pushing against it or forcing it. Rabbits feel the ebb and flow of life that will be enhanced by Water.

Tiger asks you to be brave; Rabbit asks you to respect yourself. Self-respect requires non-judgment, self-love and a knowing of your worth - three very powerful things. They ask this from a place of self-assuredness. Unlike other animals, they are not showy. They do not demand attention. Indeed a single Rabbit can go unnoticed. However, when they come together as a group, they are hard to misscollaboration, community, and family - based on self-respect and respect for others.

Rabbit's softness reveals itself in empathy and sensitivity. Their energy invites you to connect more with your sensitive side, to look at your emotions and intolerances. Previous years have pushed you towards overcoming; let their softness gently guide your self-exploration, creating more ease. Rabbits are warm by nature and nurturing; they offer you this side of themselves as a comfort and companion on your journey.

Though they are often found in groups, they can also be alone, but it is not a comfortable way to be for them. Rabbit's influence will be towards gathering together, sharing and bonding. If your nature leans towards solitude, you will find this aspect of Rabbit harder to deal with. Let the Water soothe you and act as a buffer when too many people are around.

Tiger played a more significant role on the world stage than Rabbit will. Its influence will be more calming. However, humanity's view of soft as weak will inflame the polarising energy that Tiger leaves behind. Watch out for anger, indignation and manipulation.

Wounded people often feel strength is needed, but it is only a defence mechanism. Rabbit will trigger them, will bring their wounds to the surface - opposing forces, if you will. Be mindful not to get between them and if you become their target, step aside with grace. Confronting them will solve nothing. Let Rabbit and Water deal with their pain.

Again, the Water element affects this year, bringing its undercurrent and emotional language. It stirs up and calms, perhaps even provoking where Rabbit does not. On the world stage, it will be Water that has more influence than Rabbit. Coming to wash away, erode, and, if needed, dissolve tension, aggression and greed. It is not a quick fix. Rabbit will keep the tempo slow with occasional jumps or hops.

For the individual, look at respect - Do you respect yourself? Do you respect others? Your politicians and authority figures have lost the respect of the people; Rabbit gives them a chance to recover it. Or for others to bound into the scene, popping up from nowhere to be recognised and listened to.

The trends and energy patterns flowing through the world will continue for some time. However, Rabbit will have less impact on them than other animals, like Dragon who comes next. The calm before the storm, maybe.

Look instead at considering it as a time to regroup, reflect and consolidate who you are. To focus on loving yourself and the life you are living.

Before the Wood Dragon arrives to start the rebuilding.
